Ma quante volte è finito il mondo?

Raise your hand does not know: the Mayans predicted che il mondo finirà il 21 Dicembre 2012.

Ho appena finito di leggere il recente libro dell’amico Mariano Tomatis, which so witty and fun, and at the same time rigorously scientific (some say that science is not fun is wrong, and big!), Pull all the crap (can you say crap in this section?) Put in ride on the 'end of a long account' of the Maya.

In summary, the Maya had a calendar, and like all of the calendars has cycles. Ours, for example, is divided into months, years, centuries and millennia, but the end of a century or a millennium, does not mean the end of the world, indicates only the beginning of a new century and millennium. If you want to be totally reassured that you can enjoy peace in Christmas 2012, and at the same time discovering a few tricks to fool friends, book is titled: 2012 - E 'in the end game of the world .

But back at the end of the world. Every now and then appears on the scene some prophecy, prediction, discovery, hallucination, which guaranteed the people of the world will end Thursday 23, at 7.47 am (put the date you want). The 21/12/2012 is therefore in good company, and like its predecessors will end soon forgotten.

will know for sure the prophecies of Nostradamus. Only in 3 cases, he will not tip indicating specific dates, of course, spectacularly wrong: one involved in the culmination of a long and savage religious persecution for the 1792 (which never happened), another in the total destruction of the human race for 1732 and the end of the third world for 1999!

Gospel of Matthew (16, 28) implies that the world would end with the death of the Apostles. A desire to be generous, this 'end' is delayed by at least 1900 years.

The same phrase was later used in a book written by the leader of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1920, which stated that some of those who were alive in 1920 would have seen the end of the world. End that according to the founder of this religion (Charles Taze Russell) have been done already in 1914. Data to 1966 and then moved even to 1975, then seems to have given up making predictions ... ..

thousand and not more than one thousand was the phrase that would set the end of the world by the end of 1000. Vistoche the 1001 arrived without major problems, monaco Raoul Glaber moved the date to 1033, or thousand years after Christ's death. Another failure to forecast (and we are already at 8 ...).

Another prediction (failure) of a religious was linked to the overlap of Good Friday with the date of conception of Jesus This would happen in 992, causing so much unnecessary anxiety in the population.

Check 10, and even if you could go on and I stop, I would not want to bore my readers. According to astronomical calculations of Cardinal John of Toledo, September 23, 1186 a conjunction of planets would cause catastrophes. Being a devotee of astrology, it is not surprising that his predictions have failed miserably ....

Now I make a prediction: in a few seconds, you have finished reading this book .... I guess??

the next.
